VEHICLE FOR HIRE OPERATOR APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Vehicle for Hire
Operator Application forms are available at the Records Division window of
the Salem Police Department, 95 Margin Street, Salem, MA or follow the link
at the bottom of this page.
- Submit the
completed form to the City Clerk’s Office, Salem City Hall, 93
Washington Street, Salem, MA, Room 3 WITH a $20.00 non-refundable
application fee. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- Take the
completed application to the Collector’s Office, Salem City Hall, 93
Washington Street, Salem, MA, Room 4 any THURSDAY FROM 3:00PM to
7:00PM ONLY. The Collector’s Office will determine if you owe any
outstanding money to the City (parking violations, excise tax, real
estate tax, liens, etc.). Should no monies be outstanding, the collector
will stamp the application. If you have any outstanding money due to the
City, it must be paid in full before the application can be processed
further.
- Once approved by
the Collector, bring the completed form to the Salem Police Department,
Traffic Division, 95 Margin Street, Salem, MA any MONDAY FROM 6:00PM
to 9:00PM ONLY. At this time the Traffic Officer will interview
you. Once the interview is completed, and your application is approved,
you will be issued a Temporary Operator’s License.
- Applicants are
required to supply a recent passport size photograph of themselves when
applying for their Temporary License. NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE
PROCESSED WITHOUT A PHOTO. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- The Police
Department will then send your application to the City Council for their
final approval.
- Upon approval by
the Salem City Council, the Traffic Officer will be notified and you
will then receive your permanent Vehicle for Hire Operator’s License.
- Licenses are
valid until December 31st of the current year. You will have
to complete the process each year for license renewal.
